Howdy everyone! After quite a while of being busy with other projects I have some progress to show you all on my next Edgar Allan Poe piece, "The Black Cat". Since last I showed it to you it has progressed to a further worked up sketch and to a value study. Here is the worked up sketch: Here is the value study: For some context for those who have not read this tale here is the portion of the story that I am working with. It is towards the end of the story, so if you are planning on reading the whole tale, you can find it here (http://poestories.com/read/blackcat) to avoid any spoilers. For those who are not here is the text I am working with: "Gentlemen," I said at last, as the party ascended the steps, "I delight to have allayed your suspicions. I wish you all health, and a little more courtesy. By the bye, gentlemen, this -- this is a very well constructed house." (In the rabid desire to say something easily, I scarcely knew what I uttered at all.) -- "I may say an excellently well constructed house. These walls -- are you going, gentlemen? -- these walls are solidly put together;" and here, through the mere phrenzy of bravado, I rapped heavily, with a cane which I held in my hand, upon that very portion of the brick-work behind which stood the corpse of the wife of my bosom. I hope everyone is enjoying this as much as I am enjoying working on it. Check back in to see more updates on this and other projects!
Welcome back everyone!
Exciting news! I just finished my entrance into the Communication Arts annual competition, one of the biggest art competitions in the industry today. I have entered my series of Edgar Allan Poe piece ("The Raven", "The Tell-Tale Heart", "The System of Dr. Tarr and Prof. Fether", and "William Wlson"). Wish me luck. Here are the pieces again. Welcome back everyone and welcome to anyone who is stopping by for the first time! Well another year has ended and a new one is just beginning. Time to remember what has happened and what we have learned from last year and use it to help us in the new one. A lot has happened this past year from finishing my time at PCA&D, to my Senior Show, the release of my first book, several appearances and many other events. Well time to continue with what has been happening and improve upon it. I plan on doing a lot this new year. Here is what I am going to start with. You may remember, a while back, that I have planned out my next Edgar Allan Poe piece, "The Black Cat". Here is a look at the thumbnail sketch for those who have not seen it yet. Now that I have it fully laid out and my reference ready, it will be my first piece to start the new year with. Wishing you the happiest New Year! May this year be even better than the last one. Stop back to see what is happening at Jedediah Kahl Illustration.
