Sometimes the best things come from projects that didn't turn out as well as you had hoped they would. This past week I decided to go back and revisit an old wildlife project. I was working on an illustration of a bat and was really excited to be doing this piece. Unfortunately it didn't turn out as well as I had hoped that it would.
At first I had thought about making it a very dramatic piece with a dark background and an almost operatic pose of the bat with its wing pulled across it almost like a cape. I accomplished getting the pose right but never got the lighting how I wanted it. After finding this piece again, I decided that I had the time to put a couple more hours into it and get it where I had wanted to get it for a finish.
On the left is the original image and the right one is the new finished version. It is amazing what a couple of hours will do for a piece.
