Here is a piece from a little while ago. At this point I was still experimenting where to go with my ink work and had decided to try stippling.
I had read a ghost story and thought that it would be fun to create an illustration based on what I thought was happening. The story was "The Draug" and can be found in Robert D. San Souci "More Short & Shivery: Thirty Terrifying Tales".
The story has its origins in Norway and is quite short at only 5 pages. Here is San Suoci's description of the Draug:
There are many stories told in Norway concerning the draug, a ghostly sailor with a mass of seaweed where his head should be. Sometimes he is no more than a menacing shape in a storm or mist. Sometimes he can be clearly seen as he sails in his half-boat by night or swims in the ocean waters by moonlight.
The word draug means "a living dead person." Fisherman say it is the spirit of someone who was drowned in the sea and who is now doomed to haunt the seaways, looking for victims to drag down and share his misery."
