Hello everybody. Today's post is a progress post. Here are all of the steps I took in order to create a greeting card. They include the original sketch, the worked up value study, the watercolor finish and then the ink line added over top. The process started with a simple sketch. Originally the card was going to include a beaver's home behind the snowbeaver, but it was removed so that everything fit better and has a greater appeal. After the sketch, I worked it up into a better composition and started adding values to the sketch. This way I new how pieces would fit together in order to see if it would be cohesive and have enough contrast. Next, I transferred the image to watercolor paper and added color. Usually I don't use watercolor, but thought that this project would be a good way to help me improve my technique for future use. I am very happy with how it turned out. The final step was to add my signature cross hatching line work over the watercolor. Now the project is complete. It has color and value and is ready to be printed for any winter greetings or next Christmas.
